COMFORT IS NOT THE GOAL
The Definition of Good
The Question
The Holy One, Blessed be He, created the world to bestow His good? To do good to us? So what is this “Good” that the Holy One bestows upon us? How is this goodness expressed? How does it appear?
The Redefinition
The Holy One, Blessed be He, created the world to do good. But the Divine Good is not comfort or external abundance. But Cleaving (Dvekut) and the completeness of existence.
The true goodness is the possibility of the created being to resemble his Creator. And to be an active partner in the good... and not a passive receiver of it.
The Gym
Therefore... a world of Concealment (Hester) was created. Where a person buys the good through the effort of correcting character traits and a Settled Mind (Yishuv HaDa’at). And does not receive it ready-made.
The goodness appears in the fact that man was given Knowledge (Da’at)... and Will... and Ability. To turn every encounter and every difficulty into a vessel for light and for closeness to the Truth.
The Shift
Thus it becomes clear that “The Good” is not what happens to the person. But what he becomes through it.
And when he understands this... Life itself is revealed as a continuous process of bestowing good. Leading from Receiving to Influencing (Hashpa’a). From the Ego to Cleaving (Dvekut). And from Time to Eternity.
