How to Unite the Opposing Wills (The Heart vs. Divine Truth)
We are told to "follow our heart," but often the heart is just seeking comfort. Ruth Kedem explains how to align your Human Heart with Divine Truth without suppressing it.
“Can you elaborate on how to connect the two desires that feel contradictory? Between the Will of the Heart and the Will of Truth/Divine/God?”
1. The Illusion of Duality There are not truly two wills. There is One Will. What looks like a contradiction between the Will of the Human Heart and the Will of Divine Truth is a situation where the same internal will is operating on two different layers:
The Lower Layer (The Human Heart): Seeks immediate vitality, closeness, warmth, and filling. It is driven by need.
The Upper Layer (Divine Truth): Seeks meaning, integrity, and adhesion (Dvekut). It is driven by purpose.
The Source of the Conflict: The contradiction arises not because the desires are opposed, but because:
The Human Heart seeks to receive the Light for itself.
The Truth seeks for the Light to pass through it.
2. The Connection Method The connection is not achieved by canceling the Human Heart, nor by forcing it into submission. The connection happens only when a person stops demanding that the Heart feel “right” before agreeing to be faithful to the Divine Truth.
The moment a person is willing to say: “My human heart hurts, wants, is attracted, is confused... and I am not fighting it, but I am not letting it manage me.” —That is when the connection begins.
The Human Heart does not need to change to connect. It needs to stop ruling.
3. “Holding” the Heart When the Divine Consciousness does not suppress the Human Heart but holds it in presence (like a parent holding a crying child), the Heart begins to align itself naturally.
Correction is not straightening the Lower Will, but rising above it as an Intention. The Human Heart can want one thing, and the Divine Will chooses another. This is not a Lie. This is Integrity (Yosher).
4. Creating Safety When a person persists in this integrity without lying to themselves and without blaming the Heart for its needs, the Human Heart slowly learns to feel Safe—even without getting the immediate gratification it demands.
Then, the true connection occurs: The Divine Will becomes internal. And the Human Heart stops looking for God through a person, an experience, or a fleeting emotion.
5. The Holy Gap In this generation, we do not fix the Heart by suppression, nor the Spirit by detachment. We fix through Living Truth. A person who agrees to carry a Gap within, without rushing to close it. Inside this Gap, the Light works. And then, slowly, the Human Heart finally feels safe enough to let go.
The Summary True connection happens in the moment you no longer ask “What do I feel?” nor “What is logical?” But you say: “I remain faithful to the Truth, even while my Human Heart is still learning it.” There, the two wills stop fighting and become One.
