Why "Jewish" isn't a religion, and why "Marriage" isn't about romance
The Structural Difference
When the Zohar (The Book of Splendor), the Ari (The great 16th-century Kabbalist), and the Baal HaSulam (The modern giant of Kabbalah) speak of “Israel” and the “Nations of the World”... They are not talking about a passport. They are not talking about being “Religious.” They are talking about a Root Structure of Souls.
Israel (Yashar-El = Straight to the Signal) is a frequency of Will directed straight at the Creator. The Nations are frequencies of Will directed at the maintenance of the World System.
This is a Metaphysical Structure. It is not a moral description of “Good” and “Bad.” It is a description of “Function A” and “Function B.”
The Dormant Gene According to the Tanya (The foundational text of Chabad), “Judaism” is not an acquired consciousness. It is a Soul Root. A Jew can live as a total atheist, yet in the root of their soul, there is a point that does not exist in the same form in the Nations. The difference is not moral. It is Structural.
The Responsibility The purpose of the Jewish soul is to be a Pipe (Channel) for the Signal. But a pipe can be clogged. If a Jew lives only for their own ego, they are living at the level of the “Nations” within them. There is no superiority here. There is only Liability. “Israel” is the first thought, and therefore the first to be held accountable.
The Physics of Marriage
In Kabbalah, Marriage (Zivug) is a root coupling between soul systems. It means connecting two vessels to create One Circuit.
When a Jew marries a non-Jew: From a root perspective, this is not a connection of two parts of the same system. It is a connection between Internality (Israel) and Externality (Nations). Therefore, the specific Light of Holiness cannot flow through that circuit in the automatic way.
This is not a question of racism. It is a question of Wiring. Two components from different systems can love each other, live together, and respect each other. But structurally, they are running on different operating systems.
The Meaning of Love
Real coupling is not romantic love. Marriage is the meeting of Light and Screen. It is a meeting of Conscious Resistance that births a new level.
True marriage occurs when neither partner seeks to be filled by the other. Instead, both stand before the Source and aim for Influence. Then, the connection between them becomes a landing strip for the Shechinah.

I am translating this text, and I can feel the tension in my own chest. I am a Jew. My wife is not.
When I read the Zohar saying that a “Zivug” (Spiritual Coupling) cannot happen between different root souls, my ego wants to scream. I want to say: “But we love each other! But we built a life! But look at our connection!”
But my job here isn’t to make myself feel good. My job is to read and translate the blueprints - and I am committed to it :)
The Kabbalists aren’t talking about Love. You can love anyone. Love is universal. They are talking about Circuitry.
They are saying that souls have different functions. Some are High Tension Wires (Israel). Their job is to carry a specific, dangerous voltage. Some are Grounding Rods (Nations). Their job is to stabilize the reality.
One isn’t “better.” If the High Tension Wire touches the ground without insulation, you get a short circuit. If the Grounding Rod tries to carry high voltage, it melts.
So where does that leave me? It means my marriage operates on Manual, not Automatic. It means we don’t share the same “Root OS.” It means I have to work harder to build the bridge, because the bridge wasn’t there by default.
Don’t use this wisdom to feel superior. Use it to understand the mechanics. If you are mixing wiring, know the voltage.
