STOP NUMBING THE ABYSS
You cannot set a true boundary until you are willing to sit completely sober inside your own darkness
The Internal Underworld
If you refuse to enter your own internal abyss (Sheol), you will never actually hear your own voice. You will completely lack the capacity to set healthy boundaries. The darkness is not a mistake or a punishment; it is the exact laboratory where you identify what is destroying you and what is healing you. That deep, uncomfortable void is precisely where you find the raw power to assert your existence in the physical world.
The Frequency of the Queen
The biblical archetype of Queen Esther (the Jewish heroine who engineered a national salvation from inside the Persian palace) embodies this exact mechanical movement. She did not operate from the surface. She had to descend into the absolute depths of terror and isolation before she could speak. Your authentic voice, drawn from that exact same internal depth, is the only mechanism that can actually protect you when you face a brutal external reality.
ORIYA’S NOTE
Why are we so terrified of our own basement?
We will do literally anything to avoid sitting in the dark for five minutes. The second we feel that heavy, sinking drop in our chest—the void, the abyss, the Sheol—we immediately reach for the novocaine. We pour a heavy glass of Scotch at 4:00 PM, claiming it has been a “long day.” We vape in the bathroom. We scroll TikTok until our eyes cross, watching twelve consecutive videos of a stranger power-washing a driveway just to keep our brain sufficiently distracted from the terror of our own thoughts.
We think we are protecting ourselves by avoiding the dark. But the physics of the soul dictate the exact opposite.
You cannot set a boundary with the outside world if you have no idea where you actually begin. And you only figure out where you begin when you hit the bottom of your own abyss. If you are constantly numbing the pain, your boundaries are just performative aggression. You yell at your partner to “respect your space” while actively abandoning yourself every single night.
Esther didn’t save her people by vibrating at a high frequency and ignoring the threat. She went straight into the terror. Stop treating your darkness like a disease you need to cure with cheap dopamine. Put the phone in another room, drop the aesthetic distractions, and actually walk down into the basement. The only voice that can protect you is waiting in the dark.
