The Civil War Inside You (Why Your Heart Wants What Your Head Rejects)
You know he isn't right for you, but you can't let go. Ruth Kedem explains: This "Gap" is not a delay in your healing. It is the friction necessary to create new Light.
"What do I do with the gap between my understanding and where my heart is?
Intellectually, I understand there is no match here. But my heart has a different will. It still manages me. It still holds on and asks for connection. This gap is huge, and the conflict is delaying my recovery and acceptance."
There is never a "Delay" in the spiritual world. What you are experiencing is a time of Awakening through Friction (Bitush) and Splitting (Biku'a).
The Anatomy of the Gap The gap between the Mind and the Heart is an expression of two different power systems in the Soul:
The Mind (Moach): Knows, identifies, and understands the Truth and the correct path.
The Heart (Lev): Is ruled by natural desire—an emotional bond that seeks connection, warmth, and security, regardless of logic.
The Purpose of the Conflict This gap is a deep study point. The Heart is driven by Will. It will desire even what is not good for it, until the Divine Light is revealed to it—a Light that can explain and direct the Will according to true attainment.
How to Bridge the Gap Control over the heart is not achieved through Force or Suppression. If you try to silence the heart, it will scream louder. The correction is achieved by Placing the Heart under the Light of the Mind.
The Work: In your situation, the Heart is holding onto adhesion (Dvekut) and emotional connection even when the Mind warns against it. This creates pain. This pain is the "Correction of the Soul." It is the specific place where you need to work on changing the Light Source that fuels the heart.
Do Not Fight the Emotion. Instead, introduce Light into it. Connect the heart to a Higher Level of Love and Purpose. Show the heart (gently, like a parent to a child) that what it is asking for is not necessarily the connection that is right for it on a spiritual level.
The True Work The goal is not the "Extinction of the Heart." The goal is to Teach the Heart.
To hold.
To focus.
To connect its small desire to the Will of Truth.
The Result When you persist in this, the Mind and Heart eventually begin to operate together (Moach Shalit Al HaLev). Then, the pain transforms into a Path. The process itself brings the correction, the release, and the preparation to receive the Real Truth.
