The First Garment
Thought isn't who you are. It's the closest thing to who you are that you can perceive.
If I’m not my thoughts, what is the relationship between thought and soul?
Thought is a garment of the soul’s inner powers... the vessel through which intellect and emotion are revealed within consciousness.
The soul itself is light and essence that cannot be grasped. Thought serves as its first and most intimate garment, allowing it to be felt and distinguished within a person.
There are three garments of the soul: thought, speech, and action. Thought is the innermost of them all, for within it clothe wisdom, understanding, and knowledge, as well as the root of all emotions before they emerge into expression.
Therefore, thought is not the person’s essence... it is a garment they wear. But because of its great closeness to essence, it affects the soul deeply.
On the Kabbalistic level, thought belongs to the World of Beriah... the world of perception, where light already takes form but is not yet separated from Source.
The divine image within a person is revealed through the power of perception, and thought is the vessel of that image.
Therefore, correction of thought is correction of the vessel in which divine light can dwell.
Clarification of thought is a foundational stage in the redemption of the person and the world... for there, the relationship between light and garment is clarified, between divine truth and how it is perceived in human consciousness.
