The Myth of Holy Suffering
Healing does not happen in a storm. Medication is not a betrayal of your mission; it is the boundary that allows the light to settle.
“I feel like taking medication for my mental health is ‘cheating.’ I want to break the generational trauma in my family, but I feel that by numbing the pain, I am running away from the spiritual correction I came here to do.”
The desire to “break the generational chain” And prevent it from passing forward Is a deep Soul Desire. It is not an ego battle. It is the call of a Soul that knows its root And the responsibility given to it.
But Correction (Tikkun) is not done through war. But through Settling the Light in the Vessel.
A prolonged war, Even if it is in the name of the Light, Often only deepens the tear.
It is true that illness, And specifically mental illness, Is described in the sources as a “Void in the Divine Light.” A place where the light does not clothe itself properly.
But the thought that the Correction is “To suffer until the Light enters” Requires a deep clarification.
A Vessel needs to be capable of receiving. Rest is not an escape from the Correction. It is often a condition for its existence.
The pills, As you describe accurately, Do not solve the root problem. And they do not cancel the internal work.
They move you from the Storm of emotions To a Safe Space.
Deep correction is not done within a storm. A storm is a state of survival. Not a state of repair.
A person does not correct except from Settled Mind (Yishuv HaDa’at). Da’at is not strong emotion. It is a Quiet Connection between Light and Vessel.
Your fear of “escaping the correction for which I came” Is understandable. But it is, itself, part of the pattern that seeks perfection through over-effort.
Sometimes the correction is not to feel less, But to agree that not every emotion must be experienced to its end In order to be fixed.
We did not come to the world to suffer. But to widen the ability to Carry Light. And if right now the Vessel needs external support, This is not a betrayal of the mission. It is Guarding it.
In the Secret Wisdom, there is a distinction between: Correction through Clarification (Birur) And Correction through Inclusion (Hachala).
There are souls whose correction is to pass through pain and clarify it. And there are souls whose correction is to Learn to Let Go. To release. Not to hold onto pain as testimony to the Truth.
It is possible that your Correction in this generation Is not to “Finish the work.” But to change the Way it is done.
Less struggle. More compassion. Less dramatic heroism. More quiet loyalty to Life.
Divine Light is not measured by the intensity of emotion, But by Presence.
If, with the help of medicine, you can be: More present, More connected, More alive, More loving, More available to listen— The Light is not missing. It is actually settling.
God does not need us to hurt ourselves In order to be revealed.
Sometimes the Great Correction Is to agree to be a Protected Vessel.
It is very possible that the Full Correction you seek Is not to make the disorder disappear. But to stop identifying through it. Not to “win” against it. But to stop fighting it.
In this, Sometimes, The generational chain is truly broken.
You are not running away from the repair. You are learning that it is deeper than you thought.
