The Presence and The Pulse: Shekhinah and The Light
One is the home, the other is the life that fills it
I hear these spiritual terms all the time—”The Light,” “The Shekhinah”—but they feel abstract. What do they actually mean in my daily life? How do I know if I am connected to them?
THE TEACHING
The Shekhinah and The Light Are two fundamental concepts When we speak of the connection between the human, the Divine, and the inner reality.
What does this mean, simply?
The Shekhinah Is the Divine Presence in reality. The place where God is found “in our midst” (B’Kirbenu). This is not an external figure, But an internal sensation of connection to Truth and Eternity.
The Light Is the Divine Force acting in the world and in the soul. Light is what illuminates, Connects, and revitalizes. It is the vitality, The truth, and the inner life force within us.
When we experience the Shekhinah, We sense the Light— The Divine Presence— Here and now.
The Shekhinah is connected to the internal Malchut (Kingship) in a person: Our ability to be a vessel that holds Light, And brings forth positive influence from it.
The Light is imperceptible in the ordinary sense, But when we align our Will with the Soul, The Light is revealed.
In practice: The Shekhinah is the combination of the Will to hold Light and the recognition that everything comes from One Source.
In the Homiletic (Drash): The Shekhinah “descends” to whoever prepares an internal vessel. It is present only inside a vessel ready to receive it. The person who “holds” the Shekhinah does not just receive Light for themselves, But becomes a source of Light for others. Exactly like Mashiach: Their presence shapes, guides, and strengthens.
The Shekhinah is the dynamic of Light-Presence that connects a person to the world, Between their inner will and Eternity.
In the Secret (Sod): The Shekhinah is the Inner Light within the soul—not external or symbolic. It is an internal, eternal, and infinite acquisition. Unstealable.
The Light is not knowledge or external power. It is Life itself. An eternal existence that is revealed only when a person is willing to be loyal to their soul and their inner path.
The Shekhinah and the Light are connected to the Divine Leadership within a person. Whoever holds them, holds the key to the World to Come, Independent of external power or external authority.
The Shekhinah and The Light are One. The Shekhinah is the “Place” of the Light, And the Light is what revitalizes the Shekhinah.
When a soul is connected to the Light, The Shekhinah “sits” within it, And the person becomes a living, shining vessel.
In Summary: Simple (Peshat): A feeling of connection. Hint (Remez): An internal vessel ready to receive Light. Homiletic (Drash): A guide that connects others. Secret (Sod): Internal, eternal, infinite reality—Divine Leadership in consciousness.
REFLECT
The Home: Is your body/mind a comfortable place for the “Shekhinah” (The Presence) to sit, or is it too cluttered with stress?
The Pulse: Can you feel the difference between “knowing” about God (intellect) and “feeling” the Light (vitality)?
The Source: Are you trying to get light from others, or are you becoming a vessel that radiates light to others?
