The Smile from the Other Side
Dreams of the departed are not a call to return to the past, but a signal to integrate a missing spark into the present.
“I am in a period of pleasant solitude. But lately, my deceased ex-partner appears in my dreams every night, smiling. What does it mean?”
The Question: “In the last two years, I have been in ‘pleasant solitude.’ Searching for work with meaning. The children have grown and left. I read, I learn, I gather within myself. Sometimes I have a longing for ‘couple’s touch’ and for stability in work. But despite being secular, I have a belief that this is a phase I must go through. In the last week, night after night, a deceased person who was a significant partner appears in my dream. He is smiling and present. How should I relate to this?”
The Answer: What you are describing is a very deep experience. Connecting your psyche (Nefesh) to a transitional phase in life. A transition where you are examining yourself, your desires, and your path in the world.
Dreams with the deceased, And specifically with a person who held emotional significance for you in the past, Are an Internal Appeal of the Soul for reflection and repair (Tikkun).
The deceased in the dream is not trying to “return you to the past.” Rather, he seeks to illuminate something inside you. A part that was not closed. A memory or a connection that still influences you. And perhaps also an experience of longing that needs to be understood and completed.
His presence in the dream— From a spiritual perspective— Is a call to be Aware. To accept yourself in the stages where you are found. And to give space to both the emotion and the internal observation.
You can treat this as a tool for an internal conversation with yourself. To check: What does the memory of this bond show about your desire today? About the place you are in now? And about what your Soul is searching for?
It is not necessarily about “couple’s touch.” But about a connection to Presence. To emotional maturity. And to the ability to feel Wholeness. Even in stages of solitude and the search for meaning.
In Kabbalah, the dream is a field where the Soul speaks in a symbolic language. The deceased appears in order to illuminate sparks, So that you may integrate them into your consciousness.
