The Vessel That Becomes Light
The Soul is perfect and needs no repair. The work is not to fix the Light, but to build a Vessel that can hold it.
“If my soul is a part of God and is already perfect, why do I need to work so hard in this world? Why does my behavior matter?”
“A portion of God from above is not dependent on this world or our deeds.” But this statement lacks its completion.
The Soul, from the aspect of its Essence, Is indeed a veritable portion of God from above. Unconditional. Unharmed and unchanging forever. For it is emanated from the Simple Unity and is not dependent on time, place, or deed.
However, its descent into the world Is not to change its Essence, But to Reveal it.
Deeds in this world do not act upon the Essence of the Soul, But upon the measure of its appearance in the Vessels. Meaning, on the ability of the Divine Light to be revealed within actual life.
The Zohar emphasizes that the Soul is perfect on its own. But the world was created so that this Perfection would clothe itself in Action, in Choice, and in Human Existence.
Baal HaSulam adds that the gap between the Essence of the Soul and its Revelation Is the Field of Work. Not to “fix” the Divinity, But to fix the Man, So that he may carry it.
Therefore, the “Portion of God from above” Is not dependent on our deeds in the sense of Value and Essence, But it is dependent on them in the sense of Revelation and Presence.
The deeds do not create the Holiness. They allow it to be seen. This is not a dependency of the Soul on the World, But a dependency of the World on the Person’s agreement to be a Vessel.
If a person does not become a Vessel, There is no damage to the Essence of the Soul. For the portion of God remains whole, pure, and independent forever. The Divine Light does not weaken and does not depart. But it remains in Concealment (Helem) and is not revealed within the person’s life.
The world was created so the Light would dwell in Vessels. And when the Vessel is not built, there is no “punishment,” but a reality of restricted and fragmented life, where the person does not live the depth of the Truth within him. The Zohar describes this as the Exile of the Shechinah within the person himself. Light that exists, but has no place to clothe itself.
The Soul can remain in the aspect of “Surrounding Light” (Makif). Illuminating from a distance. But it does not clothe itself in Thought, Speech, and Action. And therefore, existence remains external and unsettled.
The Secret of Gender and Geulah (Redemption)
The Kabbalistic distinction of Man as Light and Woman as Light-and-Vessel Is a root structure of emanation. The Light initiates. And the Vessel reveals, realizes, and stands the Light up in reality.
Therefore, the intention is not that a man “has Light” and a woman “only receives.” But that the initial form of appearance is different. And therefore we see men living in disconnection, in darkness, and in flight from the Light. And women who carry within them inner Light, consciousness, leadership, and containment.
This is a Historical Stage. In the Exile of the Vessels, they carry within them sparks of Light that have not yet received a correct form. And in the Days of Redemption, a reversal occurs: The Vessel Itself Shines. And the Shechinah speaks, initiates, and leads.
This is the depth of the Torah of Messiah. Not the cancellation of distinctions. But their Perfection. Where the Woman is both Vessel and Light. And the Man learns to be a Vessel no less than he is Light.
We will reach this when the consciousness of Control and Flight is repaired. And when a person stops identifying with an external role And lives the fullness of his stature. Then they will not ask “Who is Vessel and who is Light?” Because Reality itself will be Light within a Vessel, And a Vessel that shines from within.
It is not a question of a date on the calendar. But of the ripening of the Human Vessel To carry Truth without splitting it.
Male and Female are not a division of Light versus Vessel, but faces (Partzufim) of Zeir Anpin and Malchut in a state of Breaking. In Redemption, the Union of Zeir Anpin and Malchut occurs “Face to Face.” And the Vessel itself becomes Light through Equivalence of Form. This is not a role reversal, but the Repair of the Breaking. Where the Will to Receive is corrected to Bestowal. And Malchut rises to Keter (The Crown).
Then the Full Stature is revealed. Light and Vessel as One.
