When the World Turns to Cardboard
You aren't depressed; you are waking up. How to navigate the "Disillusionment from Garments."
“Lately, I feel frustrated. Reality feels like a lie. People seem full of mannerisms, like actors. Shopping, vacations, and small talk no longer interest me. I function for my family, but inside I am crying and begging God for Truth, even though I don’t know what that is. Am I depressed? Or is this a good process?”
What is happening to you looks like a Consciousness Transition Phase. What the Zohar, the Ramchal, and the Torah of Mashiach call: Disillusionment from the Garments (Hitpakchut MeHaLevushim).
When a person stops feeding themselves from the stories of the “Outside”— consumption, thrills, empty conversations, social identities— a sensation of emptiness, falsehood, and theater is revealed.
This is not because the world suddenly became a lie. Initially, this world is called “Alma de-Shakra” (The World of Falsehood).
But for you... Your Internal Vessel has stopped receiving vitality from there.
The pain, the crying, and the longing for “One Truth, One Person of Truth” are a clear sign that your soul is requesting Direct Contact with the Root. No more mediation.
This is a stage where the Will is no longer scattered, but a New Vessel that can contain the Truth has not yet been built.
The Middle State: And so, an intermediate state is created. On one hand, you function, guarding the family and the framework. On the other hand, your heart is no longer there, and it screams.
This is not a state to glorify. But it is also not a state to pathologize.
Lie = Vitality coming from a place that no longer nourishes the soul.
Truth = Alignment between the Soul’s Will and actual Life.
The suffering is created not because you are far from the Truth, but because you are closer to it than your current life allows you to contain.
How to Cope Correctly:
1. Don’t Force Interest Do not try to “get interested again” in what is finished. It is not a malfunction. It is the end of a stage. There is no need to force yourself to get excited about a mall or a vacation.
2. Do Not Isolate Completely Isolation (Hitbodedut) with the Creator is precious. But the soul in this world also needs one real human being to speak with aloud. Not just in prayer. This is critical for balance.
3. Anchoring in the Body Walking, hot food, sleep hours, contact with nature. Not “spirituality.” Grounding. The Zohar emphasizes: Light without a Vessel breaks.
4. Define the “No” Before the “Yes” Do not ask yet “What is the Truth?” Ask: “What is no longer Truth for me?” The definition will come later. Right now, the soul is cleaning.
A Safety Note: Pay attention to the fine line. If the emptiness turns into a sense of worthlessness, hopelessness, or detachment from life itself— this is a sign to turn to a professional as well. There is no contradiction to the Spirit.
What is happening to you seems like a True Process. But it is a transition that requires accompaniment, ground, and compassion. Not staying alone inside the fire.
You are not “supposed to know” yet what you are asking for. The request for Truth itself connects you to it.
Reflect:
The Theater: Look at the things that bore you now. Are they boring because they are dull, or because they are “costumes” you have outgrown?
The Anchor: Do you have one person in your life with whom you don’t have to “act”? If not, finding that person is your first spiritual task.
The Definition: “Suffering comes because you are closer to the Truth than your life allows.” Does this reframe your pain from “sickness” to “growing pains”?
The conversation continues in the comments. Have you ever felt like you were living in a movie set?
