WHY "FINDING YOURSELF" FEELS LIKE DYING
The terrifying truth about self-discovery.
Man is created inside a Double Concealment (Hester Kaful). He does not know who he is. And he does not know that he does not know.
This is the heart of the “World of Lies” (Alma d’Shikra). It is not a lie in the sense of dishonesty. It is a reality where a person identifies with the Garments (Levushim) instead of the Root. We identify with our roles, stories, traumas, fears, and beliefs, and we think: “This is Me.”
The Threat
The soul descends into a world where Light is deliberately restricted so that Man does not live by dictated truth, but reaches it through clarification. If connecting to the Self were easy, there would be no “Man”—there would only be robotic Governance.
The Divine Soul (Nefesh Elokit) lives in a completely different consciousness than the Animal Soul (Nefesh Behamit). And Man lives most of his days listening to the louder voice (the Animal), not the truer voice. Therefore, when a person truly gets closer to himself, it feels like a threat. Why? Because the “Me” he is used to is about to crumble.
The Zohar’s Definition
The Zohar calls self-connection “L’minda L’garmei”—To know oneself. But to know yourself means to discover that you have no separate existence. That your Root is in the One. And the Ego—the will to exist as something separate—resists this with all its might. It creates noise, confusion, drama, and obsession with others, just to avoid sitting in the silence where the Truth might emerge.
The Demolition
We hate losing control. And connecting to the True Self requires a total surrender of control. Because the True Self cannot be “managed.”
That is why it is so hard to “connect a person to himself.” Because it is not a connection of something broken. It is the dismantling of something fake. It requires sitting without answers. It requires stopping the blame game (others, circumstances, the system). It requires meeting the Void and discovering that it is Full.
The Crisis Mechanism
Self-connection almost always happens through crisis, loss, divorce, or a breach of trust. The Light is revealed “Min B’kiyu D’liba”—from the cracking of the heart. Man is built so that the connection passes through a breakage. Because only there do the false identifications fall away.
The Withdrawal Symptoms
When you start to get close to your Self, you feel confusion, emptiness, and loss of direction. This is not a sign that you are lost. It is a sign that you have stopped receiving orders from the old operating system. The difficulty is a side effect of the Identity Transfer.
Connecting to the Self is not “finding” a new object. It is Nullification of Form (Bitul Tzura). It is not accumulation; it is stripping away. It is not discovering “Who I am.” It is the agreement to discover that there is no “I” separate from the Truth.
And the entire world—the World of Lies—is built to enable this moment. Out of deep Grace. So that the connection, when it comes, will not be coerced. It will be a Resurrection of the Dead.

ORIYA’S NOTE
We think “Self-Discovery” is going to be a fun shopping trip where we pick out new accessories for our personality. “Oh, I found myself! I’m a person who does Yoga now!”
No. Real self-discovery is a demolition project. It is waking up and realizing that the house you have been living in—your career, your reputation, your neuroses, your “story”—is condemned. The reason you feel anxiety when you get deep is because your Ego smells its own funeral.
Don’t panic. Let the false self die. It’s the only way the real one gets to breathe.
