Why You Are Afraid of Your Own Light
We think we hide our light because it is dangerous. The truth is, we hide it because it is obligating. On the price of authenticity and the definition of "Living Against Yourself."
THE FEAR OF OBLIGATION: A person who fears their own light does not fear it because it is dangerous. They fear it because it is Obligating.
Light reveals Truth. Truth breaks old agreements, relationships, and identities we built in order to survive. The Darkness is familiar, even if it hurts. The Light is unfamiliar, even if it is good. And therefore, there is Fear.
The Demand of the Light: The Divine Light is not threatening in itself. It is threatening because the Vessel is not yet used to being faithful to it. The Light demands Leadership, not excitement. It asks you:
To stop making yourself small.
To stop hiding.
To stop adapting yourself to what doesn’t truly fit you.
And this is scary. Because it means parts of your life cannot remain the same.
Soul vs. Instinct The Divine Soul: scares a person more than the Instinct (Yetzer). Why? Because the Soul does not compromise.
The Instinct says: “Get by. Bend. Survive. Fit in.”
The Soul says: “Truth or Nothing.”
When the Soul truly wakes up, a person feels an internal threat. Not because something bad is happening, but because there is no way back to the previous innocence.
Fear vs. Awe The Zohar: says the greatest Light is revealed specifically through fear, trembling, and Awe (Yirah). Not the fear of punishment. But the Awe of Encounter. Like a person standing before a vast space.
This is not a fear you need to delete. It is an Awe you need to walk with slowly.
You can be afraid and still stay.
You can tremble and still not shrink.
You can move forward in millimeters, not leaps.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO “LIVE AGAINST YOURSELF”? The Light didn’t come to take your life away. It came to ask you to stop living against yourself.
Living against yourself isn’t doing something “bad” or making a mistake. It is a much quieter and more subtle state.
Living against yourself is:
Knowing something and not acting on it, again and again.
Feeling “Yes” and saying “No.”
Feeling “No” and saying “Yes.”
Getting used to it until it looks normal.
It is holding a lifestyle that does not match the Root of your Soul. There is a Gap. This gap expresses itself in:
Unexplained fatigue.
Crying without reason.
A sense of being “stuck.”
Or the fear of your own Light.
The Solution: When the Divine Soul does not get a real place in life, it doesn’t disappear. It presses from the inside. This pressure doesn’t always feel like sharp pain; sometimes it feels like life is passing by, but you are not present.
To stop living against yourself does not mean you must destroy your life today. It doesn’t mean getting up and leaving. It doesn’t mean making a sharp move.
It means only one thing: Stop arguing with your Internal Knowing.
Your light scares you because it asks you to stop living half a step behind yourself. You don’t need to know “How” yet. You just need to agree to stop the argument.
